Day 17 & 18 Corona Virus Chronicles | Wandering Soup

It's been two gloriously quiet and peaceful days here in Hanoi. Although there is some rumblings on the interwebs that we will be going into a full blown quarantine due to the hospital releasing 5000 folks, in the early days of March, who may have possibly come in contact with infected medical personnel. Yea. We are prepared either way, groceries are stocked up though the snack supply mysteriously stays low. I'm not pointing fingers, especially the ones that are still slightly greasy from the potato chips I was eating earlier. I'm overly fascinated by the number count that grows by the minute it seems in America, along with the number of deaths that seemingly can't be stopped in Italy. I've

Day 15 & 16 Corona Chronicles | Wandering Soup

Two days and we are officially on limited shut down status in Vietnam. All non-essential shops are closed and that includes restaurants, cafes, bars, massage parlors, karaoke clubs, cinemas. Also places of worship can not organize events with large numbers of people, and there is a limit on public gatherings. Essentially work and home only for everyone who can. We did our last deep dive grocery shopping on Friday and today, Saturday, was the first official day of no can do. I've spent most of it on the couch working on stuff along side Amber who also took a stroll with our son (the boy) through the local park. Of course keeping distance social distance, masks and gloves. We are easily adjus

Day 14 - CoronaVirus Chronicles | Wandering Soup

It's been an interesting day so far, we are on day 4 of school for this week and there was a minor bump and more importantly a discussion. The discussion centered around him taking more ownership of his education and the process. It felt good to touch base with him regarding something he mentioned months ago but hasn't done anything to move toward. We shall see what the future brings. Brunch was breakfast burritos and noodles. You figure out which one of us had noodles. I ain't gonna lie I attempted to eat a bowl of noodles the other day, you know getting my mind right for a possible quarantine. I can't do it. I don't know how folks eat that mess. Tasted like starched salt. On the other side

Day 13 - CoronaVirus Chronicles | Wandering Soup

We have been in Hanoi, Vietnam since March 13th and to say it's been interesting is an understatement. So interesting that we did an entire video about our initial few days along with why we decided to move here and as such I'm not going to go into to much detail about the first few days. We are now on day 13, almost two whole weeks and it's been a weird hybrid of not stressing to totally stressing in a matter of hours daily. In part because of the pressure being put on us by us. I'm constantly thinking what if? What if they lock us down, do we have enough food to last two weeks or more? Phone service? Internet? How far will our dollar go? What does all pf that mean pr matter in a country in

Homeschooling During The Coronavirus| Wandering Soup

Let me start out by saying I feel your pain AND more importantly I feel your kids' pain. It's a crappy situation to be in and one I can certainly empathize with if from a different angle as we chose to homeschool vs being forced to by the Coronavirus. I would like to preface this by saying that I've taught classes of some sort most of my adult life and feel that I'm good at it, but to put it mildly this experience has been humbling. When we started this journey in June, we honestly didn't "think" that homeschooling would be an issue or even really time consuming. We "expected" to sit at the "family table" and work together, him on learning and us on our various businesses. Let me tell you th

My best friend the Bum Gun! | Wandering Soup

Disclaimer: There is mention of butts, genitals, poop and pee. Please skip if you don't want to read that. Now on to the blog! ________________________________________________________________________________________ Everyone in America is hoarding Toilet paper and I'm casually sitting on my toilet and enjoying the stream of water from my bum gun. I know some of you are asking what is a bum gun and my answer is it's the best damn thing since sliced bread! But in technical terms and so you can get a more accurate picture: A bum gun is a hand-held triggered nozzle that is placed near the toilet and delivers a spray of water used for anal cleansing and cleaning of the genitals after using the to
